Kasese district celebrated Christmas amid a significant security presence as authorities deployed heavily around worship centres, particularly in border areas, to counter potential threats from Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels near the Uganda-DR Congo border.

The increased security aimed to ensure peace and safety during the festive season.

Speaking on the deployments, Bwera Division Police Commander Tai Ramadhan underscored the commitment of law enforcement to safeguarding the celebrations.

"It is our mandate to ensure that everyone celebrates Christmas peacefully. We urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities," he said.

Many congregants noted that the presence of security personnel offered much-needed reassurance during the celebrations.

State Minister for ICT Godfrey Kabbyanga also supported the move, highlighting the ongoing threat posed by ADF rebels.

"Given the proximity to the Uganda-DRC border, we cannot take any chances. The safety of our people comes first, and these measures are necessary to deter any rebel activities," Kabbyanga said.
