NAKASONGOLA | Hadijah Nangoobi and her new lover only identified as Vincent were preparing supper Thursday evening when an assailant used the cover of darkness to sneak into their home and slit their throats.

The Police in Nakasongola have opened a manhunt for Tarsis  Owoyesiga, 45, the prime suspect in the gruesome double murder.

The bodies of Nangoobi, 44, and Vincent, 40, were found lifeless at their home in Posta Zone, Central Ward in Migyera Town Council after their throats were severed by a sharp object.

Nangoobi's 12-year-old was left unharmed by the assailant, Police said.

The Savannah Region Police spokesperson, Sam Twinnaemazima, said the incident occurred yesterday Thursday evening at around 9:20pm.

He said Owoyesiga, a resident of Nalukonge Village, previously had an intimate relationship Nangoobi but the two separated earlier this year, adding that the suspected killer was jilted.

MS Oliver Kyakwa, landlord of the victims, said Owoyesiga has been consistently threatening to kill the couple because he could not handle seeing his ex-lover with another man.

Sources say the couple and other residents ignored the threats treating it for jealousy bluff.

Mr Bonny Kiwanuka, a resident of Migyeera Town Council, decried power outages the area, saying it was giving criminals the cover in the night to frustrate residents.

"On a Monthly basis, Migyeera at least registers one murder case, and this is because we have consistent power blackouts that criminals use as an advantage to frustrate residents, so many times we have cried to authorities to address this but they have turned a deaf ear." Kiwanuka Said.

Kiwanuka fsaid the suspect killer Owoyesiga, also attacked when power was off.

According to Twinnaemazima, the bodies of the victims were taken  to Nakasongola Health Center IV for postmortem examination as the search for the suspect at large commences.
