Jinja City education boss remanded over abuse of office
Jinja City Principal Education Officer, Amina Mutesi, has been arrested and charged in the Anti-Corruption Court on allegations of abuse of office.
Mutesi had been in hiding since last month after her two co-accused, Mulopa Haruna (Education Officer) and Ngobi Samuel (Assistant Sports Officer), were arrested.
Mutesi finally surrendered to the police attached to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit.
She is accused of abusing her authority by irregularly ordering headteachers of several government-aided schools in Jinja City to divert UPE (Universal Primary Education) capitation grants, which were intended for school use, to other activities within the city.
This action was in violation of the UPE Guidelines and Regulations for handling public funds.
She appeared before Grade One Magistrate, His Worship Christopher Opit, of the Anti-Corruption Court in Kololo, who remanded her to Luzira Prison.
