Next Productions partners with LWF on Refugees Got Talent!

In a groundbreaking initiative to spotlight the talents and resilience of refugee communities, Next Productions Limited, a subsidiary of Next Media, is leading the production of the captivating 'Refugees Got Talent' search.

This initiative is an activity under the Community Led Opportunities for Recovery and Empowerment (CORE) project implemented by the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) Uganda, with funding from the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM).

The primary objective of Refugees Got Talent is to provide a platform for refugees and members of the host community in Palorinya, Palabek, Adjumani Rwamwanja, and Kyangwali refugee settlements to showcase their unique skills and talents.

Through a series of filmed auditions held in all 5 settlements throughout March and April, Next Productions and LWF are on a mission to discover and celebrate the diverse talents within these communities.

Reflecting on the initiative, LWF Uganda's Technical lead Communications, Stella Namatovu remarked, "Through 'Refugees Got Talent,' we're not just showcasing talent; we're celebrating the resilience and diversity of refugee communities, in every performance, we see the triumph of the human spirit over adversity."

David Kwizera, the head of commercial production at Next Productions, emphasised the importance of authentic representation and sensitivity in storytelling.

"Our goal is to ensure that the talents and stories of refugees are portrayed with dignity and respect," he explained.

"We want to highlight the resilience and creativity that exist within these communities, while also promoting inclusivity and accessibility for all."

One of the key strategies employed by Next Productions is active engagement with local refugee communities.

By fostering meaningful partnerships and listening to the voices of refugees, the team is working to ensure that the campaign accurately reflects the experiences and aspirations of those involved.

Through this collaborative approach, "Refugees Got Talent" aims to empower refugees to take ownership of their narratives and showcase their talents on a global stage.

The impact of "Refugees Got Talent" extends far beyond the confines of a talent show. David Kwizera envisions long-term benefits for refugees in Uganda, including increased opportunities for visibility, recognition, and community integration.

"By amplifying refugee voices and talents, we hope to challenge stereotypes and promote positive social change," he stated.

"By providing a platform for refugees to share their talents, we're not just empowering individuals; we're empowering entire communities to see beyond borders and embrace each other's strengths."

As the campaign unfolds, Next Productions will continue to measure its success not just in terms of viewership numbers, but also through qualitative metrics that capture the transformative power of storytelling.
