Leaders attend the world peace summit

On September 18, 2024, the Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL) will mark the 10th Anniversary of its World Peace Summit with celebrations across South Korea and in 122 countries worldwide.

This milestone event, themed "Creating World Peace Community Through Regional Collaboration," commemorates a decade of global dedication to peace and sets the stage for future strategies aimed at fostering global harmony.

The inaugural HWPL World Peace Summit was held in Seoul in 2014, bringing together over a thousand leaders from various sectors—including politics, religion, women's groups, youth organizations, and media—from approximately 140 countries. The summit focused on conflict resolution, religious harmony, and the creation of legal frameworks to ensure lasting peace.

The anniversary celebration will review the achievements of HWPL and its partners since 2014, while also exploring future plans.

The event seeks to gather regional experts and establish essential networks for developing localized peace strategies.

It aims to strengthen regional collaborations to address local peace challenges and leverage collective efforts for greater impact. Various sessions will be organized across different countries to engage participants at multiple levels.

HWPL’s slogan for this anniversary, "Let’s have everyone become a messenger of peace," underscores its commitment to encouraging individual responsibility in promoting peace. The organization plans to collect and showcase messages of peace from people globally, representing a unified desire for peace and unity from diverse communities.

Over the past decade, HWPL, in collaboration with global partners, has worked to address major challenges such as military conflicts, economic disputes, climate change, and cybersecurity threats through enhanced regional cooperation. The organization is dedicated to building a robust peace governance framework that connects international organizations, governments, and civil societies.

Reflecting on the previous year, Chairman Lee Man-hee of HWPL emphasized the importance of peace in a statement made during the 9th Anniversary in 2023.

He noted, “Why should the lives of young people be sacrificed in war? What is politics, and for whom is it for? When war breaks out, it is young people who are sacrificed. Peace cannot be achieved through words alone. If peace had won in this world, there would have been no regrettable deaths. We must leave peace as a legacy to the global community where our descendants will live.”
