Egypt Donates Hepatitis C Vaccines to Boost Uganda's Healthcare Efforts
The consignment was received on Monday

Uganda has received a shipment of Hepatitis C vaccines from Egypt, sufficient to treat 500 patients, as part of a gesture aimed at strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations.

The consignment was received on Monday at Entebbe International Airport by Special Forces Commander (SFC) Maj Gen David Mugisha, representing Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

The vaccines were delivered by General Mohamed Ashraf from Egypt’s General Intelligence Service (GIS), which oversees the production of the Hepatitis C vaccines.

The handover ceremony was attended by key officials, including Col McDans Kamugira, the Military Assistant to the CDF, and Dr. Charles Olaro from Uganda’s Ministry of Health.

This donation follows discussions during Gen Kainerugaba’s visit to Egypt in October, where he engaged with then-GIS Director General Maj Gen Abbel Kamal about Uganda’s need for Hepatitis C vaccines.

Although Gen Kamal has since been succeeded by Gen Hassan Rashad, the collaboration has continued under the new leadership.

The delivery marks another milestone in Uganda-Egypt cooperation, following the recent acquisition of vaccines and equipment to combat Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in Uganda’s agricultural sector.

During the October visit, Gen Kainerugaba also met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing collaboration in healthcare, agriculture, and other key areas.
