UPDF Arrests Boda Tax Collector Over Clash with SFC Officer in Viral Video

The Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) has confirmed the arrest of Shaban Wesemoyo, a boda boda tax collector, for obstructing the security of the President and assaulting a soldier attached to the Special Forces Command (SFC).
The arrest follows a viral video showing Wesemoyo engaged in a physical altercation with Private Kyalimpa of the UPDF’s 6th Battalion.
The incident occurred around midday at Nakaloke Trading Centre, a junction connecting Mbale and Sironko.
In the video, private Kyalimpa is seen instructing road users, including boda boda operators, to clear the way as the Presidential convoy was expected to pass.
The confrontation escalated when Wesemoyo allegedly attacked the soldier, leading to a brawl that caught the attention of bystanders and has since drawn widespread commentary online.
Col. Deo Akiiki, the Deputy Defense Public Information Officer said, "Wesemoyo will be charged with obstructing Presidential security and assaulting a security officer on duty".
“Security personnel are deployed to ensure the smooth and safe movement of the Presidential convoy, including advising road users to vacate the path. Such acts of obstruction and misconduct undermine these efforts and will not be tolerated,” Akiiki emphasized.
