Iganga partners with LASPNET to fight crimes, drug abuse
Iganga district has been spotted as one of the districts with cases of crimes resulting from use of drugs.
This was indicated in a 2021 report by the United Nations on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) which cited 20 districts including Iganga.

This has forced the Legal Aid Service Providers Network (LASPNET) to launch a programme dubbed "strengthening crime prevention and criminal justice programme in the district.
According to the Executive Director of LASPNET Ms. Sylivia Namubiru Mukasa Iganga district was selected because of the high levels of drug related crimes that were identified by different researchers and reports pointing out violent extremism.
During the launch of the programme at the district headquarters, Namubiru said LAPSNET is closely working with the government to reduce the challenge of drug related crimes since the community needs to be more productive.
She commended the leadership of Iganga district and other stakeholders who were brought on board, saying they have a task to ensure that the ground is hit and sensitized with the necessary information.
Namubiru urged them to work with authorities and fight crimes related to the use of drugs.
She said there is a need to sensitize people through following culture other than thinking that imprisoning them is the only alternative to handle such cases.
The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Iganga district Hajj Wandera Sadala pledged support towards the implementation of the programme in the district.

The Iganga district community development officer Saidi Mukoti said the program has come at a time when people need to settle matters outside courts of law through empowering the parasocial workers to sensitize people in communities.
He commended them for providing bicycles to such workers in the district.
Shakira Naigaga , the Community Development Officer (CDO) for Bulamagi Sub County says children are going on streets and later engage in consumption of drugs because of parental neglect.
She urged parents to ensure that there is a proper family setting for children to avoid those running to streets.
