Retired Soldiers Encouraged to Contribute to National Development
Brigadier General Charles Byanyima, Commander of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Motorised Infantry Division, has called upon retired soldiers to actively engage in national development by supporting government initiatives.
Speaking at a send-off ceremony for Non-Commissioned Officers in Nakasongola, Brig Gen Byanyima emphasised the importance of fostering community unity and avoiding divisive political activities.

He advised retirees to manage their benefits carefully, engage constructively within their communities, and show respect for leaders at all levels to strengthen collaboration and harmony. “Your experience is invaluable to the nation’s progress,” he noted.
Colonel David Mugisha, the Cantonment Commander, expressed his gratitude for the retirees’ service and underscored the importance of their well-being. He encouraged them to care for their families responsibly and cultivate positive relationships with civilians, emphasising that community collaboration is crucial for shared success.
Lt. (Rtd) Saleh Kamba, the Resident District Commissioner of Nakasongola, echoed this message, saying, “You are retired, not tired,” and highlighted the ongoing connection between retirees and the government.
He encouraged them to stay involved in government projects and reminded them that learning is a lifelong journey.
The event, attended by district leaders, Isabaruuli Constantine Mwogezi Butamanya, senior and junior officers, and other notable figures, served as a meaningful occasion for retired officers to reflect on their service and consider their future roles in contributing to national development.
