Police in Buliisa District have confirmed that three people lost their lives in a motor accident at Kabolwa Village, Kigoya Parish, Buliisa Sub-county, along the Buliisa-Hoima Road. Seven others sustained critical injuries.

According to Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police spokesperson, the accident involved a Fuso truck, registration number UBQ 912R, carrying market vendors from Zombo District to Sebigoro Landing Site in Kikuube District.

The truck, loaded with cassava flour and timber, reportedly lost control, veered off the road, and crashed. “Three people died on the spot, while seven were seriously injured and taken to the hospital,” Hakiza said.

Police have identified the deceased as Jan Bwanga, 30; Darius Mungudit, 10; and another individual known only as Abubu, 25.

The injured include:

Geoffrey Wathum, 39, of Bugoma in Kikuube

Michael Waiswa, 60, of Sebigoro Landing Site in Kikuube

Godfrey Jawiambe, 29, of Kaiso in Hoima District

Aisha Ulangi, 43, of Walukuba in Buliisa District

Kizito Kasamba, 46, of Zeu in Zombo District

Agness Doriwa, 30, of Kijangi in Buseruka Sub-county, Hoima District

Emani Ngwisha, whose details are yet to be confirmed

The bodies were taken to Buliisa Hospital for postmortem, and the injured are receiving treatment at the same facility.

Sylvia Kirungi, an eyewitness from Waiga Village, reported hearing the victims’ cries for help. “We rushed to the scene but found that three had already died, while others were fighting for their lives,” she said.

Preliminary police investigations suggest the driver was speeding. Following the accident, the driver reportedly fled the scene and remains at large. Traffic police in Buliisa towed the truck’s wreckage, now held at Buliisa Central Police Station.
