UPDF Bids Farewell to 179 Retiring Junior Officers
The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has officially retired 179 junior officers during a colourful ceremony held at the Land Forces headquarters in Bombo.
Presiding over the event, Lt Gen Kayanja Muhanga, the Commander of Land Forces, commended the retirees for their unwavering commitment and contributions to maintaining peace and stability in Uganda. He emphasised the importance of discipline even after leaving active service.

“Continue being disciplined as you join the civilian population,” Lt Gen Muhanga urged, cautioning the retirees against reckless habits such as excessive drinking. He encouraged them to invest their retirement packages wisely and take advantage of initiatives like Operation Wealth Creation to secure a prosperous future.
The general also extended heartfelt appreciation to the spouses of the retiring officers for their steadfast support. “Your support at home enabled these officers to serve the nation effectively,” he noted.
Capt Robert Karamagi, representing the retirees, expressed gratitude to the UPDF for the opportunity to serve the nation. He urged those still in active duty to remain disciplined, patriotic, and committed to the values of the force.
The ceremony was graced by a host of senior UPDF officials, including Maj Gen Francis Takirwa, Deputy Commander of Land Forces; Brig Gen Mwanje Ssekiranda, Chief of Staff - Reserve Forces; Brig Gen Hassan Kimbowa, Adjutant JSHQ-BD; Brig Gen Metland Bitumbika, General Manager of Defence Forces Shop Uganda Ltd; among others.
