The Ugandan government has announced plans to increase funding for the Parish Development Model (PDM) from Shs 100 million to Shs 200 million for each parish.

This initiative aims to boost economic growth and development at the grassroots level by empowering citizens and ensuring that every Ugandan of working age has a viable plan to generate income.

According to State Minister of Finance Henry Musasizi, this move is designed to promote economic prosperity and reduce poverty.

He made the announcement during a public address at Ishanga Trading Centre in Rubanda District.

“Our plan is to ensure that each Ugandan of working age wakes up with a plan to do something that brings income at home,” Musasizi emphasized.

“Other programs such as road construction, health facilities, and schools are for us all, but Parish Development Model funds are meant for you and your household. Therefore, focus on how to utilize this money, and let us work on the rest. Otherwise, we can bring the best roads to your parish, but if you don’t have what to transport on those roads to the markets, we are not helping you,” the minister added.

The PDM is a strategic program aimed at transforming the livelihoods of Ugandans through sustainable economic development.

By increasing funding, the government hopes to accelerate progress and create more opportunities for citizens to engage in income-generating activities.

This development comes on the heels of President Museveni’s recent directives to ensure the effective implementation of the PDM.

The President has emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in the management of PDM funds, warning that those who misappropriate the funds will be held accountable.
