Mukono District officials paid tribute to national post-primary football champions St Julian High School, Seeta.

After flattering to deceive in several recent years, St Julian completed their sweet dream on Sunday beating Anus College from Teso 3-0 in the final of the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) championship.

Victory at Masaka Recreational Stadium in Masaka City was the first by a Mukono side in more than two decades and it brought fond memories of Naggalama Islamic School's exploits in 2002.

St Julian director Geofrey Sserunjogi presented the trophy to the district officials led by education officer Rashid Kikomeko at the district headquarters on Tuesday.

Sserujogi commended his players for putting up a good performance despite the financial challenges they faced during the competition at Masaka City.

He pledged to showcase total football at the next level, the regional tournament.

Mukono Deputy Resident District Commissioner Mike Ssegawa applauded the school for exhibiting good discipline in the game, saying several schools had cases of mercenaries that some of them were disqualified.

“I commend you for exhibiting discipline and good performance in the game and above all not hiring mercenaries like some schools. Hiring non-students denies talented students the opportunity to explore their abilities," said Mr Ssegawa.

Mr Kikomeko appreciated the team for bringing back the district’s lost glory in football showcasing.

He promised the district’s total support the school at the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association to be held in Uganda in September.
