LUWEERO – Bamunanika Constituency celebrated Uganda’s 62nd Independence Day with the 10th edition of the Independence Cup, a highly anticipated local football event.

Chapati triumphed over Kyewagula with a commanding 3-1 score, delighting local fans at the Bamunanika playground.

The event's guest of honour, Elizabeth Salabwa, an aspiring Member of Parliament for Bamunanika, seized the occasion to connect with the community.

Salabwa, who is eyeing the parliamentary seat in the 2026 elections, reiterated her commitment to improving the lives of her constituents.

“I am here to serve the people of Bamunanika, and I promise to work tirelessly towards improving the quality of life for all residents,” she affirmed in her speech following the match.

The Independence Cup, a beloved tradition in the area, plays a pivotal role in fostering community spirit.

Beyond football, it provides a platform for young people to showcase their athletic skills and promotes unity. Salabwa praised the event organizers for sustaining this tradition, stating, “This tournament keeps the spirit of unity alive through sports. It shows us that together, we can achieve great things.”

In recognition of the winning team's efforts, Salabwa presented Chapati FC with a cow, symbolising her support for local initiatives.

She underscored her dedication to promoting community-driven programs that uplift the region.

“I will continue to back such initiatives that empower the youth and strengthen our community,” she promised, demonstrating her vision for sustainable development in Bamunanika.

Though the parliamentary elections are two years away, Salabwa’s appearance at the event has significantly boosted her visibility.

Her engagement with the community, particularly at events like this, is strengthening her ties with voters across the constituency. Salabwa’s message of unity, development, and service resonates with many, further fueling anticipation for her **2026 campaign**.
