The Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) of the UPDF, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has  held a meeting  with Mr. Ando Naoki, Senior Vice President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), to discuss the agency's ongoing and future development initiatives in Uganda.

During the meeting, Gen. Kainerugaba praised JICA for its responsible and respectful approach to delivering development assistance, highlighting the significance of its contributions to Uganda’s infrastructure and social-economic growth.

Among the projects discussed were the Kampala Flyover Project (Lot II) and the reconstruction of the Karuma Bridge.

These infrastructure initiatives are key components of JICA's broader engagement with Uganda.

JICA’s collaboration with Uganda spans multiple sectors, including economic infrastructure development, agriculture, healthcare, access to clean water, reconstruction efforts in Northern Uganda, and support for refugees.

The agency also supports education, human development, and capacity-building programs aimed at fostering sustainable development.

Mr. Naoki reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with Uganda. He described Uganda as a pivotal state in East Africa and the Horn of Africa, emphasizing the country’s role in promoting regional stability and economic progress.

The meeting follows Gen. Kainerugaba’s groundbreaking visit to Japan, where he became the first CDF from Uganda to engage directly with Japanese defense and development officials.

While in Japan, Gen. Kainerugaba met Gen. Yoshihide Yoshida, Chief of Staff of the Japan Self-Defense Forces, further bolstering bilateral ties.
