Julius Bitwire allegedly fatally hacked his father Tiburisiyo Bitwire

SHEEMA | The Sheema District Police have launched a manhunt for a man accused of killing his 70-year-old father.

Julius Bitwire, a boda boda rider, hacked his father Tiburisiyo Bitwire to death over coffee the deceased had reported stolen, according to Martial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson.

"It's alleged that on May 6, the suspect stole coffee from his biological father, who subsequently reported the matter to Kakindo Police Station," Tumusiime said.

"The following day, on May 7, police officers from Kakindo Police Station attempted to arrest the suspect upon receiving reports from Rwabuyanja Ednando, a resident of the same area. However, the suspect fled into hiding."

In a tragic turn of events, the suspect resurfaced around 8:50pm while his father was having supper with his grandchildren.

He allegedly grabbed a panga and fatally attacked his father before fleeing to an unknown location.

"The deceased had reported the coffee theft case against the suspect, which seems to have angered him," Tumusiime noted.

The body of the deceased has been transferred to Kabwohe Health Center IV for postmortem examination as investigations into the matter continue.

Sheema District has witnessed a concerning rise in murder cases, with over 20 cases registered in less than six months, sparking worry among residents and local authorities.
