MOROTO | A man died on the spot after being hit by a vehicle on the Moroto-Soroti Road on Monday afternoon, Police have said.

Gabriel Akol, a resident of Singilla in Moroto Municipality, was killed in the hit-and-run incident that happened about  3km from Iriiri trading centre.

Various social media posts claimed that the accident was caused by a vehicle belonging to Micro-Finance Support Centre, which was heading to Moroto.

Police say the management of Microfinance Support Centre is cooperating with investigations.

"The management of micro-finance handed over their Landcruiser registration number UBQ 289D, which arrived from Kampala on April 28. The vehicle is currently in our custody," Mike Longole, the Karamoja Region Police spokesperson, told the Nile Post.

"We take public concerns seriously and assure you of our dedicated investigations," he added.
