Census jobs applicants decry irregularities in Arua City
Applicants check their names on pinned lists.

The applicants for jobs in the forthcoming national population census have decried the irregularities that marred the  recruitment of enumerators and supervisors in Arua City .

These have since stormed the office of the Resident City Commissioner to lodge a complaints for being  illegally excluded and that  individuals that were not interviewed were shortlisted as successful candidates

According to Denis Felix Droti, one of the applicants, the recruitment process who rightfully followed the procedure were kicked out.

“We believe that the staff of Arua City erroneously brought their relatives instead of taking up people who applied, were shortlisted and interviewed particularly on the Parish Supervisor position. Surprisingly, one of those that has been shortlisted as a successful candidate is the one that interviewed us," Droti said.

He adds that they have identified 29 people that have been shortlisted as successful applicants yet they did not do interviews and of these, five  are civil servants working in the city.

“One is a town agent, there’s another civil servant working with Arua Central Division and others. If  the people who are paid in the government structures have been given the job, it disenfranchises the young and unemployed people."

The aggrieved applicants now UBOS to recall and revise the list or halt the entire process in order to follow the right procedure.

"I pray that the Executive Director of UBOS  interests himself in this matter to cancel the results because if we could find 29 names smuggled into the list of parish supervisors, we are not sure about the extent of irregularities in the position of enumerators. Let him summon the city clerk but also retrieve all the results of the interviews ,"Ismael Komakechi Bamuke said.

While addressing the angry applicants, the Resident City Commissioner of Arua, Charles Ichogor  promised to look into this matter which he said is becoming a security threat.
