Police arrest suspects behind Shs150m coffee factory heist

Police has apprehended two suspects over armed robbery of Shs150m from Zavuga Coffee Investments owner, Pulinali Semanda.

The arrests come days after a CCTV footage showed armed men robbing, Semanda, 53-year old businessman.

On Monday, police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke, noted that two key suspects had been arrested in connection to the robbery.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Gerald Mwanje and Fred Senteza.

Semanda, was reportedly ambushed at his home after withdrawing the cash from Centenary Bank in Kyotera, intended for paying workers and coffee suppliers.

According to the police spokesperson, Kituuma Rusoke, following an extensive investigation, police apprehended Mwanje, also known as Kigere Muzeyi, on September 6, 2024, in Kalisizo town.

"Mwanje confessed to his involvement in the robbery and was identified on CCTV footage as the individual who took the bag from Semanda’s car while his accomplice, Joseph Kagimu (alias Bruno), held the victim at gunpoint with an AK-47 rifle," Rusoke said.

Additionally, Rusoke noted that another suspect, Senteza, a boda boda rider has been arrested and is currently aiding police in locating the other suspects still at large.

"..police arrested Senteza Fred, a 25-year-old boda boda rider and brother to Mwanje, who was sent by Bruno to retrieve his car from a washing bay after sensing police activity. He is currently assisting authorities in locating other suspects still at large," he said.

The police mouthpiece says, after the robbery, the suspects purchased vehicles, which were subsequently impounded by the police.
