The Kyabazinga of Busoga, His Royal Highness William Gabula Nadiope IV, celebrated his 36th birthday in grand style with a royal dinner held at Igenge Palace, Bugembe.

The event attracted several high-profile dignitaries, including the First Deputy Prime Minister Rebecca Kadaga, Minister of General Duties in the Office of the Prime Minister Justine Kasule Lumumba, FUFA President Moses Magogo, Members of Parliament, and other regional leaders.

The celebration, held under the theme "Transforming Busoga through Sports and Culture," emphasized the role of sports in driving social and economic development.

FUFA President Moses Magogo, who delivered the keynote address, highlighted the vast potential of the sports economy, stating that it could surpass even the coffee economy if properly developed.

"Recently, I saw everyone discussing the coffee economy, but I can assure you that the sports economy is much larger when fully developed," Magogo said.

He cited examples of developed countries benefiting immensely from sports and reiterated the pivotal role Busoga has played in Uganda's football history by producing prominent players like Andy Mwesigwa, Geoffrey Massa, and Hakim Magumba, among others.

Magogo announced FUFA 10 years strategic plan to construct the Kyabazinga Stadium to promote sports in the region further.

Similarly, Rebecca Kadaga underscored the importance of investing in sports infrastructure and facilities to foster talent and economic growth in Busoga.

Kadaga also used the platform to address pressing social issues, particularly teenage pregnancies and child marriages, which remain rampant in the region.

She revealed a directive to the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Kamuli to enforce a 7pm curfew for minors, particularly during holidays, as a measure to curb these challenges.

Kadaga called on RDCs in other districts to adopt similar measures.

During the celebrations, FUFA President Moses Magogo officially handed over Busoga United Football Club to the Kyabazinga, transforming it into a community-owned club.

The move aims to foster a sense of ownership among the people of Busoga and ensure the club's financial sustainability.

The Kyabazinga expressed his gratitude to the kingdom's partners for their unwavering support in fostering the development of Busoga.

He reiterated his commitment to promoting sports and culture as key pillars for transforming the region.

During the Prime Minister of Busoga Dr Joseph Muvawala asked the congregation to observe a moment of silence for the fallen son of the soil Dr Frank Nabwiso who died on Saturday at Mukono Church of Uganda Hospital.

The event concluded with a renewed sense of unity and determination to leverage sports and culture as catalysts for Busoga’s growth.
