The Iteso Paramount Chief, Emorimor Paul Emolot Etomokleng, has assured the Iteso community of a brighter future as the region prepares for opportunities arising from the discovery of oil and other minerals.

Addressing a clan engagement in Katakwi, Emorimor emphasised the importance of education, economic empowerment, and land preservation as the pillars of sustainable development.

In his address, the Paramount Chief revealed that the Iteso Cultural Union (ICU) is prioritizing education by introducing clan-based educational bursaries aimed at reducing school dropouts.

"No more school dropouts," Emorimor declared, stressing that education is essential for the community to harness the benefits of the evolving economy.

“Iteso children must go to good schools and receive quality education,” he added, emphasising that a well-educated community would be better positioned to seize future opportunities.

Emorimor also called for a shift in mindset among the Iteso, urging them to embrace the money economy and invest in income-generating ventures.

“Let’s learn how to make money so that we can educate our children and transform our lives,” he said, underscoring the need for economic empowerment at the grassroots level.

The Paramount Chief cautioned residents against the indiscriminate sale of land, noting its critical value for future generations.

“Stop selling land anyhow,” he warned. “With oil and mineral discoveries, a better future is coming, and we must protect our heritage.”

He assured the community that the ICU would advocate for fair compensation mechanisms before any resource exploration or extraction begins.

“Before doing anything, compensation must be done properly,” Emorimor stated, reinforcing the ICU’s commitment to safeguarding the interests of the Iteso people.

The Paramount Chief’s speech outlined the ICU’s broader vision to prepare the Iteso community for transformative opportunities by prioritising education, fostering economic empowerment, and conserving land.

He called on the community to unite and take collective responsibility for their development, ensuring prosperity for both current and future generations.

Emorimor’s message has sparked optimism within the community, with many pledging to heed his call for mindset change and sustainable development.

As the region anticipates economic transformation from oil and mineral discoveries, the Iteso Cultural Union’s proactive initiatives are expected to play a pivotal role in securing a prosperous future for the Iteso people.
