Hardly a fortnight since former National Unity Platform (NUP) coordinator for eastern Uganda, Moses Bigirwa, formed a regional front named the Eastern Revolutionary Platform, another NUP member has stepped up to declare presidential ambitions.

Mr Idi Menya, 35, has declared his intention to be President of Uganda in 2026.

Menya, a lawyer from Jinja who is pursuing a doctorate in international law at the University of Istanbul in Turkey, says he wants to dislodge the dictatorial regime of General Museveni

"I have come to fight corruption which is the biggest impediment to service delivery and development in Uganda, how shall i do that, is by employing competent people not based on their tribes like it is in the current regime," he said.

"The reason corruption is continuing in Uganda is because it is a government of President Museveni's friends,  relatives and in-laws."

Menya said he was still a member of NUP but that he is yet to arrive at a decision on whether he will come as independent or a party flagbearer" he said

In 2021, Menya forayed into politics with a dream to become Jinja District Chairman but he failed to meet the nomination requirements.
