Gomba Trader Severely Mutilate
Unidentified men brutally attacked a trader after he was caught stealing coffee from a guarded field in Nakijondoddo village, Kyegonza Sub-county Gomba District.
The victim, identified as Ibra, a resident of Bwala, suffered severe injuries, with his arms and legs reportedly cut off during the ordeal.
According to eyewitnesses, Ibra was discovered stealing coffee from a farm notorious for theft in the previous season.
The farm owner had recently employed guards to patrol the property day and night due to frequent incidents of theft.
"The field where he has been stealing coffee is one of the most targeted fields in Mwanyi last season," a resident revealed.
"So the owner decided to put guards to protect it."
Ibra was rushed to a private hospital in Gomba for emergency care, but due to the severity of his condition, he was transferred to Gombe Hospital.
Medical personnel have described his condition as critical, with little hope for recovery.
“We rushed him to Gombe Hospital, but his condition is dire, and it’s very difficult for him to recover,” said one of the responders at the scene.
Residents of the area have expressed concern over the rising cases of coffee theft, which often lead to violence and injuries.
“Coffee theft has become rampant in our area. Almost every day, either a thief is caught or a resident is injured while guarding their crops,” another resident noted.
Authorities in the region have yet to comment on the incident, but the attack has highlighted the growing tensions between farmers and thieves, as well as the extreme measures being taken to protect valuable crops.
Investigations into the attack are ongoing.
