On January 10, Gen Muhoozi announced his departure from X after a decade of active engagement and proceeded to deactivate his account.
The old account had amassed over a million followers. He joined the microblogging platform in August 2014 and became known for his outspoken and often controversial posts.
While disengaging last week, Muhoozi cited the need to focus on his military responsibilities as the reason for his departure.
“To all my Dear followers, it has been a great whirlwind and rousing journey together on these streets for the last 10 years since 2014. However, the time has now come under the instructions and blessings of my Lord Jesus Christ to leave and concentrate on His army, the UPDF,” Muhoozi wrote.
He assured his followers of a possible return in the future, saying, “At an appropriate time, when it becomes important and after fulfilling the Almighty God's immediate assignment to restore everlasting peace and security to all His people in our region, we shall always re-converge.”
His engagements on social media have been controversial. From diplomatic farce to threats against his rivals down to late night fantasies about his wife or Beyonce, the 50-year-old serves it all chilled.
He has left jaws dropping after threatening to deport the US Ambassador to Uganda, has sent Kenya boiling after bragging his army could capture Nairobi in two weeks, and he has left Sudan in a knot with threats to storm the restive nation.
His frequent online attacks on National Unity Platform leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, also drew widespread attention.
