Museveni Awards Shs30m to Busoga Entrepreneur

During his tour, he met with Buwala Tolofisa, a local entrepreneur from Namutamba District, whose dedication to business development earned her a Shs30-million grant to expand her operations.
President Museveni has resumed his Parish Development Model (PDM) performance assessment tour in the Busoga sub-region, reaffirming his commitment to grassroots economic transformation.
During his tour, the President met with Buwala Tolofisa, a local entrepreneur from Namutamba District, whose dedication to business development earned her a Shs30-million grant to expand her operations.
The grant is part of the government’s broader initiative to support small businesses, agriculture, and local industries that contribute to Uganda’s economic growth.
Speaking during the visit, President Museveni emphasised the importance of empowering local entrepreneurs to drive sustainable development.
“This money is meant to be a jumpstart,” Museveni stated. “We need to move from poverty to prosperity, and the Parish Development Model is key in bringing opportunities to people at the grassroots level.”
Buwala’s business, which operates on a modest piece of land, has demonstrated significant potential.
The grant will enable her to purchase additional land, laying a solid foundation for her business expansion.
This recognition not only marks a personal milestone for Buwala but also promises to stimulate the local economy by creating jobs and fostering growth.
The initiative aligns with the core objectives of the PDM, which seeks to transition Ugandans from subsistence farming into the money economy.
By supporting value-creating ventures at the parish level, the government aims to build a more inclusive and sustainable economic model.
President Museveni’s visit to Busoga underscores the increasing importance of regional economic assessments in the PDM’s monitoring framework.
While the program has faced some criticism regarding its overall effectiveness, moments like these highlight its potential to drive change by directly empowering individuals who are making a tangible impact.
