Man donates 50 acres to KCCA to dump garbage
The proprietor of Fusion Oils Uganda, Jimmy Ddungu, has offered to donate 50 acres of land to the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) for waste management purposes.
The offer comes amidst allegations of irregularities in KCCA’s planned procurement of another plot of land along Mityana Road, raising questions about transparency and government spending.

In a letter addressed to key government officials, including the Prime Minister and Attorney General, Ddungu stated that his land was prequalified by KCCA alongside another plot owned by a neighbor.
He alleges that the neighboring plot, priced at Shs 130 million per acre, is significantly more expensive than his offer of Shs 80 million per acre.
He also claimed the other plot is unsuitable due to its sloping nature and ongoing legal disputes.
“The land KCCA wants to buy is currently a subject of contention in the High Court of Mpigi under Civil Suit No. 147 of 2024. Additionally, the National Forestry Authority and the Ministry of Lands have raised issues about its ownership,” Ddungu said.
As a “patriotic citizen,” Ddungu has proposed donating 50 acres of his land to KCCA, provided the authority agrees to purchase an additional portion at a negotiated rate.
He has also offered the government a one-year grace period to begin payments, citing financial constraints.
“I informed His Excellency the President of this offer last month. This is part of my corporate social responsibility to make Kampala a better place,” Ddungu stated.
The controversy over KCCA’s land procurement raises concerns about potential financial losses to the government, with Ddungu estimating that over Shs 10 billion could be wasted if the current purchase proceeds.
