Balaam faces challenges amidst rise in unemployment
As Balaam Barugahara assumes his role as the State Minister for Youths and Children Affairs, he confronts a daunting challenge: a burgeoning unemployment crisis among Uganda's youth.
With youth unemployment rates soaring to unprecedented levels, Balaam steps into his new position amidst widespread concerns about economic opportunities for young people.
Recent data indicates that nearly one in every three young Ugandans is without a job, presenting a pressing issue that demands urgent attention.
As he settles into his responsibilities, Balaam acknowledges the gravity of the situation and pledges to prioritize initiatives aimed at tackling youth unemployment head-on.
"Addressing youth unemployment is a top priority for my ministry," he affirms.

However, Barugahara faces significant obstacles in implementing these initiatives, including limited funding, bureaucratic hurdles, and structural barriers within the job market.
Moreover, the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have exacerbated existing challenges, further exacerbating the plight of unemployed youth.
In response to these challenges, Barugahara emphasizes the importance of collective action and collaboration across government agencies, civil society organizations, and the private sector.
"Solving youth unemployment requires a concerted effort from all stakeholders," he asserts. "Together, we can create a future where every young Ugandan has the opportunity to realize their full potential."
