MTN Uganda has officially presented a donation of Shs15 million to the Midwest Cluster, for Martyrs Day celebrations slated for June 3, 2024.

The donation is in line with MTN’s commitment to standing alongside the Anglican community as they honor the Uganda Martyrs.

Abel Mwesigye, MTN Uganda's West regional business manager in company of Alex Ruhunda Akiki the MTN resident dealer and chief community officer and the Fort Portal municipality Member of Parliament, highlighted the company's unwavering dedication to supporting events that embody shared values of resilience, unity, and community empowerment.

"We are honored to collaborate with the Midwest Cluster as they organize this significant event," said Ruhunda.

"MTN acknowledges the profound importance of Martyrs’ Day in Uganda's religious landscape and is privileged to contribute to the success of these celebrations." he added.

According to the telecom, the donation aims to ensure the seamless organization of the Martyrs’ Day festivities, providing a spiritually enriching experience for all participants.

Additionally, MTN has introduced a MoMo Fundraising Code, 590539 in the names Church of Uganda Martyrs Day Celebrations, empowering individuals to join hands in supporting the Martyrs’ Day preparations.

The Midwest Cluster, led by Rt Rev Kisembo Reuben, the Cluster Chairman and Bishop of Ruwenzori Diocese, expressed profound gratitude for MTN's generous assistance towards the event.

"I extend my heartfelt appreciation to MTN for their invaluable support," stated Bishop Kisembo.

"This contribution significantly enhances our preparations for Martyrs’ Day, enabling us to commemorate the enduring faith of the Uganda Martyrs."

The contribution to the Anglicans comes a day after MTN equally supported the Catholic Shrine’s preparations in Nebbi ahead of the Martyrs’ Day celebration in Namugongo.

Furthermore, MTN will sponsor the broadcast of activities leading up to Martyrs’ Day celebrations and the proceedings of the actual day on local TV stations, ensuring broader participation in the celebrations.

As Uganda commemorates the 60th anniversary of the canonisation of the Uganda Martyrs by Pope Paul VI, this year's theme, "Conforming to the Truth of God’s word and not the patterns of the world" (Romans 12:1-2), resonates with the enduring legacy of faith and sacrifice exemplified by the Martyrs.

MTN says it remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering partnerships that promote unity, spirituality, and cultural heritage, embodying the company's ethos of making a meaningful impact in the communities it serves.
