Two Dead as Police Vehicle Overturns on Katosi-Nyenga Road
The Mukono-Katosi-Nyenga road has many speed bumps and roundabouts

This accident comes just days after another incident on the same road, where a Goglon bus overturned, leaving several passengers injured

Two people have been confirmed dead, and several others injured, in a tragic accident along the Katosi-Nyenga road in Buwooya village, Buikwe District.

The accident involved a police vehicle, registration number UP 7503 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, which veered off the road and overturned multiple times after the driver reportedly lost control.

The incident occurred around 8:00 a.m. while the vehicle was traveling from Nyenga to Mukono with five occupants, including a police officer and her family members.

The deceased have been identified as Sam Emusugutu, the vehicle’s driver, and Faustino Ejaapu, a cousin to AIP Esther Amasikido.

Those injured include AIP Esther Amasikido, her maid Mary Achieng (28), her sons Ethorn Mwidu (6) and Elian Mwidu (2), and a juvenile cousin, Okello.

The injured were rushed to St. Charles Lwanga Hospital in Buikwe, where the two fatalities were pronounced dead upon arrival.

The bodies were later transferred to Kawolo Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.

The police vehicle has been towed to Ngogwe Police Station for inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles.

This accident comes just days after another incident on the same road, where a Goglon bus overturned, leaving several passengers injured.

These incidents have raised concerns about road safety on the busy Katosi-Nyenga route.

SP Hellen Butoto, the Police spokesperson for the Ssezibwa Region, confirmed the accidents and urged motorists to exercise caution during the festive season, when traffic is usually heavier.

Authorities continue to investigate both accidents and emphasize the importance of adhering to speed limits and maintaining vehicles in proper mechanical condition.
