The Mengo Chief Magistrate Court has inaugurated its case settlement week, aiming to resolve 79 cases through mediation.
The initiative, under the oversight of the Senior Principal Magistrate for Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), HW Daniel Bwambale, seeks to provide a more streamlined and user-friendly approach to justice.
To facilitate this, eight mediators have been appointed, including three court-accredited professionals: Ms Florence Namyalo, Ms Sylvia Namuleme, and Ms Christine Nakyeyune.
Joining them are four advocates: Ms Phoebe Nandudu, Ms Ritah Nambozo, Ms Grace Nakazibwe, and Mr Bruno Birungi, alongside Ms Rita Babirye Nampala.
Each mediator is tasked with handling an equal share of the cases, ensuring a balanced distribution of work.
During a preparatory meeting with some of the mediators, HW Bwambale emphasized the importance of teamwork and assured them of the ADR registry's full support.
"The ADR registry is here to support you in any way possible. We encourage you to embrace teamwork to ensure the success of this settlement week," he said.
This case settlement week is part of the court's broader efforts to expedite justice and reduce case backlogs.
By focusing on mediation, the court aims to offer a more amicable and efficient resolution process, reducing the strain on the traditional court system and providing a quicker, less adversarial path to justice for all parties involved.
