NUP to Assess Leaders' Performance Ahead of 2026 Elections

Rubongoya explained that the assessment will include feedback from the public on how well NUP leaders have served their constituents.
The findings will guide the party’s decision on retaining or replacing flagbearers for the upcoming elections.
“This process will help us identify and filter out leaders who have not fulfilled their mandate to serve the people who voted for them,” Rubongoya said.
He stressed that the decision will not rest solely with party officials but will incorporate input from the electorate, aligning with NUP’s principle of "People Power, Our Power.
Rubongoya also highlighted the party's commitment to addressing corruption and rooting out opportunists who misuse the NUP platform for personal gain.
“Any evidence of misconduct will be met with decisive action,” he added.
Rubaga South MP Aloysius Mukasa welcomed the initiative, noting that it would expose leaders who have damaged the party’s reputation and neglected their responsibilities.
“This will ensure accountability and strengthen trust between NUP leaders and the electorate,” Mukasa remarked.
Counsel Jude Mbabaali, who is seeking a NUP flag for the upcoming elections, urged both current leaders and aspiring candidates to collaborate in building the party’s image and enhancing its service to the people.
The annual NUP retreat in Rubaga serves as a platform for reflecting on the achievements of elected leaders, addressing internal issues, and planning for the future.
This year’s retreat focused on accountability and aligning leadership with the party’s vision of public service.
The assessment initiative is seen as a critical step in preparing NUP for the 2026 elections while ensuring its leadership remains committed to the party’s ideals and the needs of the electorate.
