The Federation of Motorsport Clubs Uganda (FMU) and Motorsport Uganda (MPU) have confirmed that the 2025 National Motor Rally Championships (NRC) will begin with Mbarara as the host.

The event, dubbed Lumala and Mum at 60 and 90, will take place from January 24 to 26, 2025, in celebration of veteran rally driver Moses Lumala’s birthday and that of his mother.

According to Clerk of Course Kisitu Mayanja, the rally will consist of five sections spanning Biharwe, Kanyaryeru, and Sanga, with a double Sacket at Mwesigwa Resort in Kibega.

The drivers will cover a total distance of 297 km, including the challenging double Sacket in Sanga, Kiruhura District.

Speaking at the launch event over the weekend, Mbarara City North MP and host of the double Sacket Robert Mwesigwa Rukaari expressed gratitude to FMU and MPU for bringing the rally to Mbarara.

“Hosting this rally brings economic benefits to the residents and enhances sports tourism. I urge everyone to seize this opportunity,” Rukaari said.

He also announced that proceeds from the rally would be directed toward cleaning up Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital and supporting the facility’s needs.

FMU President Jimmy Akena assured full support to MPU and encouraged clubs to participate actively in the upcoming season.

"As FMU, we are committed to doing everything within our ability to develop this sport and ensure it remains accessible to all. Mbarara is setting the stage for a great year in motorsport, and we anticipate a thrilling event,” Akena said.

This marks the third time Mbarara will host the rally since 2019. Approximately 20 drivers have registered for the competition, which will kick off at 9 a.m. on January 24, 2025.
