The Ministry of Works and Transport has suspended the operations of Jaguar buses for 10 days following a tragic crash that claimed eight lives.

The accident occurred on September 1st along the Kampala-Masaka road, with preliminary investigations pointing to reckless driving.

Minister of State for Works and Transport, Fred Byamukama, announced the suspension after a meeting with the company’s management.

“We are in a season where schools are reopening, and people are already shopping for Christmas. We can’t risk more lives on our roads,” he said.

Byamukama further stressed that the crash could have been avoided, stating, “This was a preventable tragedy caused by sheer recklessness. Such actions endanger the lives of innocent people, and we will not tolerate it.” He assured the public that the suspension was necessary to allow thorough investigations and ensure safety measures are implemented

Speaking to the media, Mwebesa Amon, the manager at Jaguar Coaches, expressed shock at the ministry's decision.

“We spoke with the ministry the previous night, and now we are shocked by the actions they have taken,” he said. Amon added, “We are working tirelessly to rectify the matter, and as of today, everything is still running as normal.”

The minister also warned other bus operators, including Gateway bus, whose drivers were caught speeding in a viral video. “We’ve seen the reckless behavior, and we’re coming for you as well,” Byamukama emphasized.
