Mr Ken Nyombi, who used several aliases including Innocent Ssemanda, Samuel Alfred Teriyeitu, and Fred Ssendi, was arraigned before Senior Principal Grade One Magistrate Winnie Nankya on charges related to forgery.

NATIONAL | Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court has remanded Ken Nyombi, a man accused of posing as a medical doctor, following an expose by NBS Television.

Mr Nyombi, who used several aliases including Innocent Ssemanda, Samuel Alfred Teriyeitu, and Fred Ssendi, was arraigned before Senior Principal Grade One Magistrate Winnie Nankya on charges related to forgery.

The state alleges that Nyombi forged a national ID in the name of Saemanda Innocent in 2015, falsely purporting it to have been issued by the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA).

He is also accused of forging a medical degree certificate, allegedly from Makerere University, and several other documents, including a letter of expression of interest for an epidemiologist position at the Ministry of Health, a curriculum vitae, and an employment contract.

The investigative report, aired by NBS Television, uncovered that the accused deceived several patients, who trusted him for medical care, believing they were receiving services from a qualified professional.

Many victims have since come forward, claiming they suffered health complications after being treated by the impersonator.

Law enforcement authorities acted swiftly after the NBS Television report aired, leading to the arrest of the suspect.

Mr Nyombi allegedly used these forged documents to obtain a registration certificate from the Medical and Dental Practitioners Council under false pretenses, allowing him to practice as a medical professional.

He is charged with violating several sections of the Penal Code Act, including sections related to forgery and obtaining documents by false pretenses.

The accused denied the charges. However, State Prosecutor Nam Terpister informed the court that investigations are ongoing.

Mr Nyombi’s request for bail was not granted, as Magistrate Nankya explained that she was handling numerous other cases and was alone at the station. Nyombi was remanded until November 22, 2024, when the case is expected to be further heard.

This case follows an investigation by NBS Television, which uncovered Nyombi’s alleged fraudulent activities, sparking public outrage over the issue of fake professionals in the healthcare sector.
