He who lives by the machete dies by the machete and for one Lira butcher, the old adage wouldn't have been more tragic

LIRA CITY | Police in Lira City are searching for a man accused of murdering a 32-year-old butcher, George Aliro, over an alleged extramarital affair with his wife.

The incident occurred on Thursday night in the Owiti Cell, Amuca Ward, Lira City East Division.

According to police, Aliro, a resident of Kakoge ‘A’ Cell, had been having an affair with the wife of the suspect, identified as Bazil Otim.

On the night of the incident, Aliro reportedly called Daisy Akullo, informing her of his intention to visit her at her marital home. Around 3am, Aliro arrived at the house, where he was let inside.

However, Akullo’s husband, Bazil Otim, appeared soon after and allegedly grabbed Aliro, beating him severely.

Otim is said to have picked up a panga (machete) and attacked Aliro, inflicting multiple fatal wounds. The victim reportedly died at the scene due to excessive bleeding from the cuts.

North Kyoga Regional Police spokesperson, SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, confirmed that homicide detectives visited the scene, documented the incident, and recovered the panga believed to have been used in the attack.

The body of the deceased was transported to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Daisy Akullo, who is pregnant, may be carrying Aliro’s child, which could have been a motive for the crime.

While Bazil Otim remains on the run, his wife Daisy Akullo and another man, reportedly her brother, are in custody to assist with the ongoing investigation.

SP Okema condemned the killing, noting the growing problem of violence in the region. He urged the suspect to surrender to the nearest police station to face charges.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are determined to bring the responsible individual to justice.
