Woman stabs husband to death over bedsheet

AMOLATAR | Police in Amolatar District are hunting for a 20-year-old woman who went on the run after allegedly stabbing her husband to death.

Ms Loy Ojok, a resident of Acilidwe Village, Namasale Sub-county  allegedly stabbed Patrick Ojok, 24, in the wee hours of Wednesday after they developed a misunderstanding over bedsheet.

Richard Okello, a neighbour of the deceased, said the couple started quarrelling at 1am over who should use the line, prompting their intervention.

“As neighbors, we heard them quarrelling over a bedsheet. We came out and settled the matter, and the bedsheet was handed over to the deceased's wife,” narrated Okello.

However, at around 2am, the deceased reportedly started calling Okello for help.

“On reaching the deceased's door, I found him seated outside but bleeding profusely, Ojok told me he had been stabbed with a blunt object and that his wife had taken off,” says Okello.

The matter was reported to the deceased’s landlord who offered first aid and a place to rest.

The North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, confirmed the incident.

“On Wednesday morning at around 6am when they checked on the deceased’s condition, and him lifeless. Police were informed, and the district CID, together with other officers, visited the scene,” the police spokesperson said.

Police however said no exhibit was recovered from the scene as the suspect is still at large.

“Efforts to have the suspect arrested is ongoing. We believe the deceased could have been saved if the first responders had rushed him for proper medical attention, "Okema said.

The body of the deceased has been taken to Amolatar Health Centre IV pending post-mortem examination.

Recent incident

Trails of murder related to domestic violence continue to take the airwaves in Lango Sub-region, with cases being reported in almost every district.

On April 17, 2024, an angry mob in Aromo Sub-county, Lira descended on a 37-year old woman, accusing her of being involved in the murder of her husband.

The 54-year-old Robert Odongo’s body was found bundled in a sack and hidden under the bed at his residence in Akaidebe village, Aromo Sub-county.

His wife, even after being rescued by police was killed after the angry mob stormed the police station where she was being held, forcibly removing her from the police cell. Two sacks of stones were recovered from the scene where she was stoned to death
